The shapes of both the Corbin Traditional and Corbin Focus barrels are designed to complement their respective bore tapers. Although a radically different design than the Traditional, the shape of the Focus represents more than a unique and attractive aesthetic. Through research, trial-and-error, and a bit of artistic creativity, the shape of the Focus barrel was achieved. Along with the hand-reamed bore, the external design helps to further focus and center the tone, as well as homogenize the registers. The shape of the Focus also helps reduce the mass of the barrel, which increases resonance (contrary to what many believe) and works with the taper to help create a “dark” (but not “dull”) tone.
